STFC booker, Raul Ramos, pleasantly surprised the #RGV MMA scene today with the official fight card for STFC 28 happening Super Bowl weekend at the Mcallen Convention Center. The main event will feature Valley standout, Victor “Brick” Martinez, taking on Gilberto Aguilar. You might recall that Aguilar was scheduled to fight Abram Torres at STFC 27 but that bout was scratched when Torres suffered an ankle injury. This fight will be contested in the featherweight division which is the debut for Martinez at this weight division. It would seem like Martinez is being setup to challenge for the featherweight title in the near feature.
The co-main event has Edinburg’s Danny Salinas taking on Antwan Williams out of Dallas in a welterweight clash. Valley favorite, Salinas had a rough 2015, going winless and also dropping out of a title fight with a $50,000 stipulation for HERO FC due to being hospitalized the day of the weight-in. Williams will be returning to MMA after being out of action for over two years. The DFW resident is sporting a .500 record in his 8 fight career with his victories all coming from submission.
One thing to take notice of is the return of WMMA to STFC with Elsa’s Luzette Garate facing Cassie Garza out of Harlingen at a catch weight bout of 110lbs. The card is scheduled for 8 fights but this card is subject to change with the possibly of fights getting scratched. Stay tuned for more information!
