The second biggest mixed martial arts promotion, Bellator, is coming to Cedar Park this Friday. The event will be headlined by former UFC veteran, Cheick Kongo, taking on Tony Johnson in a heavyweight tilt. Both fighters are riding a wave of momentum- Kongo has won his last two fights and Johnson has won his last three fights. Kongo’s wins have come by way of a decision while Johnson has finished all but one fighter in his last three outings.
Sharing the marquee with the heavyweights will be “The Baddest Man on the Planet”, Joe Warren taking on Sweden’s Sirwan Kakai in a clash of bantamweights. Warren will be looking to bounce back after being submitted by Darrion Caldwell this past March. Kakai, also known as the “Zohan”, will be making his second appearance in the Bellator cage and will also be looking to bounce back from a loss.
In addition to the main card, the undercard will host the debuts of local Austin fighters such as Sean Clements, Waylon Bronstrup and Garret “Deaf Grappler” Scott in his second professional bout. If you’re coming out to the event be sure to arrive earlier than the televised start time to support Austin’s own as they fight under the banner of Bellator. Support local fighters!
